Mr Mohd Ali Mahmood, Senior Director, PPIS Social Services & Training and Consultancy
What Works? Identifying Effective Practices in Working with Malay Families

As a Family Service Centre (FSC) where Malay families form the majority of its clientele, PPIS-Jurong FSC has developed specialised competencies in working with Malay families. Mr Mohd Ali Mahmood, Outstanding Social Worker Award 2009 Recipient, will share best practices in working effectively through an understanding of their worldviews, beliefs and values. He will also make references from his book, Counselling Journal: Unravelling the Dilemma of a Pregnant Teen, on his 18 years of experience in helping families deal with teenage pregnancies.

Strengthening the Malay Family Unit – Yayasan Mendaki’s Wrap-around Care Concept

Yayasan Mendaki’s Wrap-Around Care concept adopts an integrated approach in supporting Malay families with multiple issues. Mr Muzafar Muneer Mustafa will illustrate how the self-help group strengthens the Malay family unit with this initiative, as well as share the successes and challenges in the implementation of this initiative.

CDC’s Experience of Working with Malay Families

Mr Stanley Fong will share South East Community Development Council’s approaches in helping Malay families. With real case studies, he will illustrate the multi-agency collaborative efforts established with ComCare Local Network partners in helping Malay families, and discuss some of the challenges involved and learning derived.
