The Monash-SSTI Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) started in April 2004. To date, we have placed 3 cohorts of students over 50 fieldwork agencies and supervisors. Social workers who hold a Bachelor of Social Work degree, and have at least 4 years of direct social work experience are invited to apply. Students are expected to work 490hours on placement, handling social workers' task and have at least 2hours (1 hour formal, 1 hour informal) per 35hours of supervision on placement. Supervisors can discuss students' learning agreement, tasks on placement and discussion of academic studies/theories during supervision.
Supervisors can expect an honorarium as a token of appreciation. In addition, supervisors can look forward to 6-month free SSTI library membership, priority attendance at social work supervision workshops, free training at SSTI and SSTI vouchers.

The Flinders-SSTI Bachelor of Education (Special Education) started in July 2006. A fundamental aspect of the Bachelor of Education (Special Education) is the development of pedagogical knowledge, skills and the ability to apply these in school or other settings. The teaching experience topics are designed to provide students with a range of experiences to assist in developing the competencies required to be successful and professional educators. Working and practicing in classrooms is recognised as a significant part of the total preparation for teaching and includes directed observation, interaction with students, and teaching.
Special schools are invited to apply as host organisations. There are three different options for host organisations to provide field experience placements for students completing the Bachelor of Education (Special Education). These options are:
Practicum 1A:
(i) School Experience
Students are required to spend between 2 -4 hours at four different organisations to develop an understanding of the clientele and services provided.
(ii) Extended Placement
Students are required to complete equivalent to a two weeks placement in one educational organisation (this placement may be completed on a part-time basis by spending half day instead of full day at the site). The placement should be continuous in nature being completed over a 2 -4 week period. The host school will link the student with a teacher who has at least 2 years of experience to act as supervisor. Supervisors can also expect a free mentor training from Flinders University.
Practicum 2A: Six Week Placement
This is the final field experience for students and they are placed in an educational organisation for a six weeks period.
