Training Roadmaps > Introduction

The Professional Development Pathways serve to identify the necessary educational pathways or minimum qualifications to begin a career in specific professions in the social service sector and guide training needs as staff progress in their careers.

Each pathway aims to fulfil the following three objectives:

a. Serve as a primary reference for VWOs to identify the competencies required of their staff;
b. Inform VWOs of the training available by various training providers to acquire these competencies; and
c. Guide VWOs in mapping out training development paths for their staff, tracing the competencies required from entry to senior levels.

Notwithstanding the importance of formal training courses, we would urge VWOs to take a holistic approach in the development of their staff. Developmental opportunities can then expand to also include consultancy projects, in-house learning sessions, well designed on the job learning assignments and self learning via journals and association with professional membership organisations
